Gunpowder Green & Mint Tea is a premium loose-leaf tea blend from Twinings. Its name ‘Gunpowder’ comes from the style of green tea – each leaf is tightly rolled into small pellet-like balls, traditionally thought to resemble old-fashioned gunpowder pellets. Once steeped, these pellets unfurl to release the flavour.
Ingredients, Taste & Aroma:
The ingredients consists of about 80% green tea and 20% mint leaves – there are no artificial additives listed, making this a natural tea blend. The green tea is sourced from the Zhejiang province in South-East China, a well-known area for pellet style tea leaves.
- Flavour profile: Crisp, refreshing green tea with a clean, cool mint note. Slightly grassy and herbaceous with a minty finish.
- Liquid colour: Bright green / golden-green with good clarity.
Sustainability & Sourcing:
Twinings highlights that with products such as these, they’re working to help improve the quality of life in tea-growing communities. This includes supporting incomes, maternal and baby health, access to clean water and other health and nutrition projects.
Brewing Instructions & Taste Experience:
When brewing the Gunpowder tea, a glass teapot is recommended, as it allows you to watch the pellets unfurl as they steep – which can be quite a relaxing moment while waiting. The tea blend is also incredibly versatile, as it can be served both hot or cold!
To brew a fabulous pot –
- Use 1 rounded teaspoon per cup (plus 1 for the pot if using)
- Pour freshly boiled water, cooled slightly, over the leaves
- Steep for 2 – 4 minutes, depending on how strong you like it
- Best served without milk
However if you choose to have it cold, just pour the cold brew over ice, and pair with honey or a little agave for some sweetness.
