Produced in Ireland, Brogan’s Irish Cream is a cream-liqueur consisting of fresh cream, oak-aged Irish whiskey and rich chocolate. Its official description classes it as ‘Irish to the core’ – as can be seen by the ingredients favoured. Along with the original, there are flavoured varieties that have also been introduced (such as Mint, White Chocolate and Crème Caramel).
Taste & Character:
- Key flavour notes: cocoa/chocolate, sweet vanilla, rich cream, a warming whiskey base
- The texture can be described as velvety, rich and indulgent – likely due to the fresh cream used
- Some have noted the aroma has hints of espresso, milk chocolate and caramelised sugar
- The ABV is stronger than typical light cream liqueurs, but is still classed as a ‘dessert / after-dinner’ drink
How to Serve:
- The best way to drink Brogan’s Irish Cream is to serve neat, perhaps slightly chilled or over a couple of ice cubes, to appreciate the creamy texture and flavour
- It can be used in an Irish Coffee-style drink – add a splash to hot coffee for a treat.
- Use in cocktails or dessert-style serves – for instance the Cappuccino variant is described for blending with ice cream or coffee liqueur cocktails
- Due to its richness, it could also be used as a dessert ingredient, such as pouring over ice cream or mixed into a creamy pudding
Things to Note:
Because cream liqueurs are dairy-based, they have a shorter shelf life once opened compared to spirits. It’s best kept refrigerated and consumed within a reasonable timeframe, to be able to enjoy the liqueur at its best.
