Stress Awareness Month:
Stress Awareness Month is an event that happens annually, beginning back in 1992, with it’s main aim focused on increasing awareness about stress, how it happens and what can be done to manage it in our everyday lives. Some other primary aims also include providing resources and support to assist both individuals and organisations manage stress effectively, and to encourage open conversations to try and reduce the stigma surrounding stress and mental health.
What is Stress?
Stress is something we all feel at one point in our life – sometimes more than others. Its an emotion we feel when under pressure, or threatened, and usually occurs when we’re in a situation we are unable to manage or control. Though stress is common, it can become a problem when the feeling lasts for a long period of time, or is incredibly intense – this in turn can then have a negative impact on our physical and mental health.
Ways to Combat Stress:
There are many ways to help combat the feeling of stress, and introducing some of theses into your regular routine can help build positive habits. One way many people help beat stress is by taking up a creative hobby – this could be something as simple as colouring, or you could pick up a new skill like crochet! Getting outside and moving your body is another great way to help manage stress levels, or sitting and practicing mindfulness and meditation. However, when it comes to how you’re feeling, sometimes the best thing to do is talk to someone you trust – having that support system in place can be both uplifting and reassuring.
